The Main Quiestion - Is Guild Wars worth it?
In the begining there was a wish. A wish to buy the Guild Wars game. But here, here, I was wondering if my computer could handle it: The answers is yes. But in the meantime, I discovered a little million bugs present. First of all, there are connecting problems, then the restarting problems, then the overheating, then disconnecting, then very huuuge lags, and many many others. Now the main question, the mother of them all, IS GUILD WARS WORTH THE MONEY? The technical question I have: How many people have asked themselves the question above?

But in every post someone says that he/she had problem, and this is very common response: "I have the same problem". Duh. Has anyone played the game perfectly fine? And on which hardware? Alienware one's?

So far, I think it's worth the money to me. I never worried that my computer couldn't handle it. I've never had any connecting problems, restarting problems, overheating or lags. I have had lots of fun. $50 doesn't seem like that much money anyway.
Judgments like these depend on a person's perspective and economic condition. I wouldn't pay $50,000 for a car but I see hundreds of people every day that would without a second thought. For every person who regrets spending the money on Guild Wars, there is probably another person who spent even more money to upgrade their computer just to play at max settings.

no problems here
I think the kind of threads you are referring to gives you a wrong image.
Only people with (mostly minor) problems are posting such kind of things. No problem with that of course, but if everyone who did not have any problem would make a new post here, the list would become extremely long imo. Then again there is no need for posting "All is well here" ...
I think GW is very much worth the prize, it's probably the best RPG experience I have had so far....

Guild Wars Service Update 29 April 2005
"We apologize for the technical issue that is affecting gameplay and accessibility. The data center is experiencing network issues. We are working with our service providers to find a prompt solution, and very much appreciate your patience as we resolve this matter."
Is this going to solve the problems, or in any way change the playability of the game.
Or is ArenaNet just messing with you guys?

50$ is very much in Croatia. It is a 25% of average payment. Half of it goes to taxes, and other half is for living. Don't say it isn't much.

Those who are experiencing the difficulty of impatance and the teething pains of me, me, me without ever experiencing the wonders of a Blizzard "realm down" could step back and eat some food, refocus your eyes, and even say hello to your friends and relatives until the ISP gets it's act together.
Remember one thing, Arena Net DOESN'T own the internet, but depends on others to provide them a gateway. If your clothes weren't washed for you, would you be shunned socially?

25% of an average paycheck? That would be about $700 in my area. Yeah that's too much to spend for a video game. What were you thinking?

The first one I didn't understand. The second one, I was pointing at the (probably cheap) ArenaNet servers, not the internet.

I wasn't thinking. I spend much money on pirated games, so I've decided to make a step forward. And, I'm 16 years old. I'd buy it with MY money earned on part-time job, I did post my mother's payment for comparison.

You have no clue. If you think a game as massive as this relies on "cheap" servers, maybe you should go back to what gave you the most enjoyment, those awesome pirated games you think aren't worth paying the develpoers for.
You'll get no sympathy here.

Thanks for your kindness. I didn't came here for flaming, I did share the truth with you. It is not an alternative to play pirated games, It is a restriction. And I did not say that the developers aren't worth of money. It's about I don't have the money. And for the cheap servers - I did read this on this forums, so in this matter I was only "suggesting".
I didn't came here for your sympathy.

Yup Definatly worth it!
I have an Alienware to and I have no technical issue what so ever.
The lag... heh, even the lag is cool.. last night when we had that split, Me and a friend were stuck in a district of ascaron city, where we basically stayed until the lag disapeard.
we were stuck with some germans, so I tested out some school boy german and had a dance around the fire, lol.
they were quick to announce that they had a problem too, unlike other games were several weeks later after they had some meetings about it they decided that yes, they did have a lag problem.
I dont mind lag, shat happens, but when they ignore it and keep quiet is more of a problem to me, so yes GW is definatly worth it.

One more question:
I have P4 1.80, 512MB of RAM and GeForce 4 MX420.
I will update to SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon 9600 PRO ADVANTAGE 128 bit, 256 MB, so I was wondering, could I expect lags, or techincal issues? And how big should the framerate be now? Could be about 30? Many thanks.

The game has wonderful graphics. The lag is no worse than most online games, much better than various areas of WoW for darn sure.
Is it worth it?
I guess that depends on your expectations and experience with other games.
What I like about GW:*DISCLAIMER for the flamers* My opinion only, and we're all entitled. =)
Graphics are very sweet and not too overly taxing on a machine.
The spell/skills effects and animations are very cool.
Same for combat/melee animations.
The flexibility of point allocation, reallocation, and experimentation options are a breath of fresh air.
I like that you have to plan your skillset in town and only 8 slots makes every choice a big deal.
Quest system is robust and intelligent, with risk vs reward that seem pretty well thought out and balanced.
I have not played any PVP yet, so I do not know if some classes are overpowered in that area but so far PVE seems balanced.
Many other mechanics I like as well- NPC Crafters for better weaps, etc. Customization of items for bonuses. I always hated having to mine for ore and blacksmith in UO just to have money.
I LOVE THE NAMING CONVENTIONS! I have seen so many creative, cool, and funny names so far. Thank you for not censoring humor.
What I do not like: *DISCLAIMER again, etc =)*
Lanscape geometry/Collision absolutely blows. The fact that objects and NPC's take up much more space than visually representing makes life difficult and annoying.
You never know till you get there that the small hump of a root near this tree is requiring you to run around...while you are being beat on.
No jumping or sliding off the "path" to get away. Let us take damage at our discretion if we want to go down a bit of a slope as a shortcut, sheesh.
No jumping. I know it's annoying to see 100 retards jumping all over town, but why take it out altogether?
Can you not strafe and still maintain attack? Seems like when I move my melee stops, perhaps this is just an Id 10 T error on my part. If not, that is weak.
No swimming? The water looks AMAZING! I want to swim!
I'm sure I'll have more good and bad as I play more.

As a programmer myself, I think its a pretty pathetic excuse to use "I dont have the money" to justify STEALING. I'm sure it would be perfectly fine for someone (using your logic) to come up to you, throw you on the ground and then steal your shoes with the excuse that they didnt have the money to buy their own shoes. If you don;t have the money to pay for something, then you shouldnt have it. Period. And I don't give a rat's ass where you're from. Using pirated software is no different than stealing it from a store. Good thing you didnt come here for sympathy, cause you certainly won't receive any from me and I am sure if Guild Wars were piratable, you wouldnt have paid for it either. It's people like YOU that force us into using such nice things as Star Force.
Now as for the game, I am not having any issues except for the problems they had yesterday.
